FAQ's

Can you tell me how much it's going to cost?

I can give you a good basic estimate on the base cost before we start. However, the final cost will vary, dependant on what tile and design you choose. Some kinds of tiles, like glass, granite and rectified tile, not only can cost substantially more, but also can also take up to two or three times longer to install properly, so your installation charges go up as well. I will give you a base cost, assuming the basic design and an easy, ceramic tile to be used. The cost will vary if you add in any other design features and choose any tile other than a straight non-rectified ceramic without special design. The exact cost will be arrived once you fully determine your tile and design. Call us, and we’ll come over to give you a free estimate: 604-729-2543.

Can you help me pick out tile?

Yes, this is best strategy. People are often overwhelmed at the amount of choice out there, with thousands of different colours, styles and prices. And, they have no idea as to the dramatic variation in maintenance upkeep and installation cost attached to their choice. I will give you pointers before you go out to select your tile.

I will meet you or direct you to tile stores that:

– offer the best prices
– specialize in your kind of tile, be it ethnic mosaic, basic, granite or glass.

Be forewarned, often stores display very pretty eye-candy designs, but are expensive to re-create.

Another option you have is to retain me for an additional small consulting fee, to be your full-fledged consultant, to take you around to several of the best tile places, or secure for you that special tile you want, and that exactly meets your design and budget needs.

What if I already have my tile picked out?

No matter what tile you have, I can work with it, am knowledgeable as to how best to install it and take care of it, and will secure a good price for you to install.

I am only interested in small items. I want a kitchen backsplash, and my fireplace tiles. Is this something you do?

Yes, we do small jobs, and take care of them exactly as our larger jobs.

How long will it take to complete the installation?

We can give you a pretty good estimate of timing once we know what you choose. Call us, and we’ll come over to give you a free estimate: 604-729-2543.

Do you install granite tile on counter tops?

Yes.

Cement underlayment, how important is it really?

During the season changes there are divergent temperatures and humidly which expand and contract wood. This can delaminate tile over time, and cement board helps stop this delamination.

What if a tile cracks later on?

I will leave you a hand full of tile, so you don’t have to worry about finding your tile (might be discontinued) or it may be hard to find tile in the same die lot.

Can you replace tile that has cracked if I have the tile already?

Yes, as long as you have the tile I can replace it.

Do you guarantee your work?

Yes we guarantee our tile installation was professionally preformed.

What about possible moulds and germs in tile grout for showers, and especially kitchen countertops.

We are fully knowledgeable about what kind of grout, epoxy and sealers to use to protect you. This is an area, where, if you don’t have the right tiler, you can go wrong. Rest assured, we know our stuff.

I’ve fallen in love with shiny marble for my floors – is that okay?

Marble is a soft stone and beautiful to look at. When highly polished, it scratches easily, and without considerable maintenance it can easily show scuff marks. An alternative would be to use a honed marble or a harder stone.

What should I look out for in a tiler?

Make sure your tiler is knowledgeable to be able to advise you as to your material selection. Ensure your tiler knows his way around the various sealants, grout and epoxy. I have seen lots of mistakes made, and had to come in to sort out the problems. If you are doing a floor, ensure your tiler really know his floor leveling. Some may think they know, but we’ve seen some very scary jobs out there. Also ensure your tiler is knowledgeable of anti-fracture and acoustic membrane.
